Resurrection and Eternal Life
When the first man, Adam, sinned, death entered the world. Since then everyone is subject to its fallen nature. The goods news is that through Jesus's death and resurrection Jesus gave the world hope again. Everyone who puts their faith in him is reborn; they are no longer slaves to sin and will live eternally with God ( 1 Corinthians 15:22, 47-49 ).
Jesus's followers long for the day their bodies will be raised to life and freed form the effects of sin. The great hope as disciples of Jesus is not simply to be raised 'spiritually' but to be raised 'physically' to new life in a new creation.
This hope does not involve living just in heaven but we look forward to living in a new creation that has been cleansed from sin, evil, death, mourning and pain. In the new creation, peace will rule, work will be a joy rather than a burden, and we will continue to cultivate, explore and develop the world that God has made us ( Isaiah 65:17-25).
That will only take place when Jesus returns to gather his people and judge the world. Jesus' people will be raised with new bodies that ere imperishable, glorious, free from weakness, and empowered by the spirit. Most importantly, they will live forever in the presence of God, in full enjoyment of him and the world he has remade for his glory and their good.
