The Death and Resurrection of Jesus

The Death and Resurrection of Jesus

Jesus' life, death and resurrection form the foundation of the Christian belief. These event occurred in first century Jerusalem and confirmed by and recorded by eyewitnesses ( John 21: 24-25 ).

1 Corinthians 15: 3-6 - that Christ died for our sins according to Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to Scriptures

Jesus was crucified in Jerusalem by Roman soldier although it was the Jewish religious leaders who had plotted against him. He was whipped to the skin, a crown of thorns was pushed onto his head. He also had to carry his own cross. Jesus's location was betrayed by one of his own disciples, Judas Iscariot. This was no surprise to Jesus- he had predicted hi death many times ( Mark 8:31 ).

On the cross Jesus gave himself as a sacrifice for us as he died for our sins. Sin is the breaking of God's law. Sin separates us from God and results in death. In the New Testament we learn that Jesus' death was the ultimate sacrifice to bring us back to God. Romans 5:8 says that 'God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ dies for us.' In the cross we can be sure that God loves us and is just. In Jesus's death he willingly suffered the consequences of our sins.

Jesus when then buried in the tomb of Joseph confirming he was dead.  A stone was rolled over the entrance with a guard posting. But on the third day after Jesus's death he rose from the dead. His resurrection showcases that all he said and his teachings were true. He was called a blasphemer and a trouble maker, but he rose announcing to the world he was truly the Son of God.

He resurrection also mean we can be sure that our sins have been forgiven. We do not need to be afraid of death, because all who trust in Jesus will be raised form the dead as he was. Christians too will receive bodies that are physical, imperishable and immortal.
